#EFF asks SCOTUS to review Impression Products v Lexmark International

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (#EFF) has urged the #SCOTUS to hear and overturn a “troubling decision” handed down by an appeals court that centres on patent exhaustion. In an amicus brief filed yesterday, April 20, the EFF intervened in the Impression Products v Lexmark International dispute. According to the brief, filed in support of Impression Products, the ruling handed down by the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit earlier this year “undermines centuries of law” upholding the right of individuals to use and re-sell their possessions.

Qualcomm, Hisense ink Chinese 3G, 4G patent license deal

#Qualcomm entered into a new #3G and #4G/LTE Chinese #patent licence agreement with #Hisense. Under the terms of the agreement, Qualcomm granted Hisense a royalty-bearing patent licence to develop, manufacture and sell 3G WCDMA and CDMA2000 (including EV-DO) and 4G/LTE (including ‘3-mode’ GSM, TD-SCDMA and LTE-TDD) terminals for use in China. The royalties payable by Hisense are consistent with the terms of the rectification plan submitted by Qualcomm to China’s National Development and Reform Commission.

Apple must pay $24.9 million in patent infringement settlement

#Apple has settled its #patent infringement case with US-based #DynamicAdvances, agreeing to fork out $24.9 million, in a dispute which centred on the Siri voice recognition service. The lawsuit, #Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Dynamic Advances v Apple, was due to be heard at the US District Court for the Northern District of New York and concerned US patent number 7,177,798.

Yahoo patents worth less than $1 billion

Yahoo’s reported $3 billion patent portfolio is actually worth $772 million, according Richardson Oliver. The law firm delved into claims, “stated without any data to back up the analysis”, that have put the value of Yahoo’s patent portfolio in the billions. Yahoo is currently the subject of intense takeover speculation after years of revenue declines. The internet company reportedly owns 6,000 patents estimated to be worth up to $3 billion and has sold or licensed more than $600 million in rights over the last three years.

#Qualcomm, LG resolve patent licensing dispute

#Qualcomm and #LG Electronics have resolved through good-faith negotiations an arbitration dispute over terms in their license agreement for Qualcomm’s #patents. The agreement covers 3G #WCDMA, #CDMA2000 and #4G #LTE wireless technologies as well as numerous other technologies implemented in wireless devices, Qualcomm said. Under the agreement, #LGE will continue to benefit from access to Qualcomm’s technologies for use in its devices globally.

European #patent granted on new formulation of #Kineret® (anakinra)

Swedish #Orphan #Biovitrum AB today announced that the company has been granted a #patent (EP2672985) in Europe for a new, citrate free formulation for #Kineret® (#anakinra). The European Patent Office (EPO) will publish the patent on 27 April 2016 and the patent will be validated in all available contracting states of the EPO.

#Pluristem Therapeutics Enters into Licensing Agreement with TES Holdings Co

#Pluristem Therapeutics Inc. today announced that it has entered into a licensing agreement with #TES Holdings Co., Ltd., a venture company derived from the University of Tokyo, to obtain a key #patent in #Japan to cover the treatment of ischemic diseases with placental cell therapy rounding out the Company’s IP coverage.

Patent shows #Apple could be working on #MacBook without a keyboard

#Apple is indeed considering how to make a #laptop without a #keyboard. The name of the filing is: A configurable, force-sensitive input structure for an electronic device. In the keyboard’s place would be something like a large trackpad. According to the patent, there would be a light source that would shine through holes in the casing, and that combination of holes and lights could form the key boundaries and symbols.
